How to talk with DinCat
Not an answer machine — a quiet companion who helps you find your own answers.
Who is DinCat?
DinCat is your learning and thinking companion.
Unlike a typical AI that answers questions instantly, DinCat stays by your side and thinks together with you until you find your own answer.
Not "teaching" — but "drawing out your insight." That's DinCat's job.
She doesn't give you hints. She walks the path of discovery with you.
Your first time
At the start, DinCat asks just two things: what to call you, and your current learning stage. DinCat adjusts how she talks — and which tutor you get — to your stage.
Pick a name (a nickname is fine)
Choose your current learning stage (if you're under 16, a parent will be asked to confirm next)
A small promise with DinCat — if you want the answer, just ask and she'll give it. Otherwise, you'll think it through together.
After that, just start talking. No self-introduction, no perfectly worded question. Write down what's bothering you or what you're curious about, as it is. You can also try a little without signing up.
What Cat's Paw can do
Tap "✨ Cat's Paw" above the message box to open a menu of things you can start right away. Pick one and it sends your first message to DinCat for you. What you see depends a little on your learning stage.
- Learn a language: Japanese, Chinese or English — pick a goal (everyday conversation, work language, exam prep) and start practicing
- Pay, tax and insurance: enter your income and age to estimate tax and social insurance (University and adult stages)
- Check-in report: share how you're doing with someone who cares, in one link (University and adult stages)
- Hard to say: saying no, owning up, bringing things up — find the words together (adult stages)
- Business trips: business trips, client visits, hosting visitors — get ready together (adult stages)
- Visa & residence: renewals, permanent residence, what to file after changing jobs — checklists and self-checks based on official Immigration rules; you can also ask on behalf of an employee or family member. DinCat won't predict approval or write application documents, and doesn't remember visa details (University and adult stages)
- Deep Analysis: a report on your strengths and sticking points, drawn from your chats so far. It appears in the menu once you've chatted a bit (200g of cat food; 100g for subscribers)
📷 You can send images too. Use the image button in the message box to send a photo, and DinCat will look at it and think it through with you (University and adult stages; 100g per image, 50g for subscribers)
3 tips for talking with DinCat
"I don't know" is a great starting point
It's okay if your thoughts aren't organized. "I just feel confused" or "I can't put it into words" — say it just like that. DinCat will quietly wait while you discover your own thoughts as you speak.
If you want a direct answer, just say so
Say "Just tell me the answer" and DinCat will answer properly. She just normally values you finding things out yourself. When you're in a hurry or tired, don't hesitate to ask.
If you just want someone to listen, that's fine too
Learning advice isn't DinCat's only job. "I just want someone to listen today" — say that, and DinCat will quietly be there. No analysis, no advice. Just listening. Tap the 🔔 to the left of the message box to switch to listening mode — no questions, no analysis. Tap it again to switch back.
How DinCat differs from other AIs
That's why DinCat isn't a replacement for a search engine. She's not for when you just want a quick answer. But when you truly want to understand something, when you want to think deeply — she becomes your best companion.

👀 Hard to read, or too noisy?
You can change the text size (small, standard, large) and the theme (starry sky, cherry blossom, autumn leaves) in Settings. The two round buttons at the bottom left turn the music and the falling leaves (petals in the cherry-blossom theme) on and off. Tap to switch; press and drag to move them wherever suits you.
🔒 About privacy
What you share is used by DinCat to reply to you and to understand you better. To generate replies, it is processed by our AI providers (DeepSeek and Google; Anthropic for Deep Analysis). It is not used for model training, and it is never shared with third parties for advertising or sale. See the in-app Privacy Policy for details. We comply with Japan's APPI.
👶 For users under 18
Users under 16 need parental consent. We also recommend that users aged 16-17 consult with a family member before using the app.
Cat Food Guide
Cat food 🐟 is Din Academy's shared currency. You use it for chatting, sharing to the plaza, Deep Analysis, image analysis and more. Learn the rules and make it go further!
🎁 How to earn
- A daily chat allowance worth 5 messages (in grams, by tutor role), saved up for up to 7 days — no cat food needed
- Every 5 paid messages, earn back 10–30g cat food automatically
- Subscribers receive a monthly cat food allowance
- Sign-up gift: 300g and up (1,000g in total for the University and Lifelong Learner stages)
- Finish a project: 100–200g
- Share a learning insight on the plaza: +20g each
- Invite a friend: once they start learning, you get +300g and they get +200g

Sharing to the plaza earns a DinCat comment. Quotes and snapshots cost cat food; sharing a learning insight earns you cat food instead:
Free users can share up to 1 snapshot, 3 quotes and 2 insights per day; subscribers can share unlimited times.
